Busy business.

[tired but satisfied sigh]

music video collage

The past few weeks have seen a decent amount of work. I wrapped up the America Speaks Now commercial, taped a friend’s wedding (Congrats, Josh and Liz!), started filming a music video for a song my brother recorded…

…and knocked out a couple other small projects. Now I’m working with a church in North Philadelphia that bought some air time on a small local station, and they need help recording their services and getting them broadcast ready. I’m getting business. The IDM tadpole is starting to show its stubby little legs, but it’s still no frog yet. I’ve been mostly busy, but work hasn’t really been consistent or substantial.

I’m still waiting to hear back from a potential client with a pretty big promo video proposal. Aside from that, the current project pull is starting to dry up. I’ve enjoyed having a wide variety of production jobs to work on, but I’m wondering if I should develop a specialized niche that I can market more heavily. I don’t know what that would be (anybody have ideas?), but people tend to seek out “masters-of one” more than the “Jacks”.

I’ve also been calling around to other video production businesses, feeling out some networking and collaboration possibilities. And then there’s the “fun but impractical” option that involves dusting off the scripts for a comedy series my friends and I wrote a few years back, and producing some original content. Choices, choices everywhere, and not a sure step to step.

And on a completely unrelated note: Riding the Philadelphia sports morale roller-coaster might be an emotionally unsafe move in the midst of all the other uncertainties, but I’m willing to risk it. GO PHILS!
